The wall, with a remarkable height of fourteen rows, rests on three foundations, and one impost. The latter are marked by the unfinished surface of the blocks and by the presence of alphabetic marks.

The wall, with a remarkable height of fourteen rows, rests on three foundations, and one impost. The latter are marked by the unfinished surface of the blocks and by the presence of alphabetic marks.

According to NdS –
“Only in the last fifteen metres before the turn of the corner to the Gate, the cement curtain is abruptly interrupted to give way to the most beautiful and perfect curtain in square tuff that there is in the whole Pompeian fortification (fig.6).

(Solo negli ultimi quindici metri prima del risvolto dell’angolo della porta, d’interrompe bruscamente la cortina cementicia per dar lungo alla più bella e perfetta cortina in opera quadrata in tufo che si abbia in tutta la fortificazione pompeiana (fig.6).
